Designed in 1978 by Vladimir Rybaltchenko, Siam is a particularly spectacular scarf, with an exuberance typical of the 1970s. The design reaches a rare degree of decorative sophistication. Inspired by the arts and symbolism of South-East Asia, the motif is organised around a central circular composition evoking a ceremonial mandala. Dancers, mythological figures and architectural elements unfold with remarkable precision.
The deep burgundy ground acts as a setting, revealing an intense palette combining ruby, cardinal red, luminous gold and celestial blue. The whole evokes a precious textile as much as a ritual object.

A 1993 reissue exists and should not be confused with this piece. Shown here is the original 1978 edition, now particularly sought after for its red palette and its rarity on the market. In very good condition.

A word from Diane
The original edition changes everything. Here we find a depth of colour and a finesse of printing very characteristic of late-1970s production. The burgundy is dense, the golds are crisp, and the design remains perfectly legible despite its richness.
A piece for the discerning connoisseur, still fairly modestly valued for now: a scarf chosen to build or complete a collection.
