Created in 1964 by Françoise de la Perrière, Étriers (Stirrups) is one of the most emblematic scarves of the Maison Hermès. Inspired by Émile Hermès’ collection of equestrian objects, the design pays tribute to the art of harness-making through the centuries.
The composition features a selection of 18th- and 19th-century stirrups from different traditions, from South America to the Middle East by way of France and Spain. Each piece is treated as an objet d’art: floral engravings, star motifs and finely chased animal figures evoke the decorative and technical richness of these objects. A classic, in very good condition. The scarf shown here is from the 1990 reissue. A new edition followed in 2014.
