Hermès Scarf 90 cm – Les Robes – Philippe Ledoux (1968)
Pièce unique.
Created in 1968 by Philippe Ledoux, Les Robes (Horse Coats) is a tribute to the natural beauty of the horse through the richness of its coat colours. The scarf precisely illustrates the different coats of horses (chestnut, dun, piebald, bay, mouse grey, ebony black) in a sober, instructive composition, true to the designer’s elegant, realistic style. Reissued in 1983, 1993 and 1997, Les Robes is one of the rare and sought-after equestrian Hermès scarves, whatever the edition.
The version shown here offers a soft, luminous palette, with a white ground set off by a pale pink frame, which highlights the finesse of the line and the delicacy of the subject. The horses are depicted in natural tones, browns, creams, blacks and greys, in a spirit both scientific and poetic.
Rare and sought after, Les Robes will appeal as much to Hermès collectors as to lovers of riding and animal drawing. Presented here in very good vintage condition.

A word from Diane
With Les Robes, Philippe Ledoux composes a true visual encyclopaedia of the horse. Each animal is shown in a natural pose, on a light ground that leaves full room for the drawing, the line and the nuances of the coats.
Here you find everything that makes the great Hermès equestrian scarves so strong: precise drawing, an elegant subject and that very French way of turning a technical vocabulary into an object of beauty.
In this colourway with a white ground and a pale pink border, the scarf gains a particular softness. A sober, refined piece, Hermès to its core.
